The importance of varves is not limited to its role as a measure of age determination. They have also precisely recorded the events year by year that happened in the past natural history. In other words, they serve as the best and the most precise recording instrument as well. In this section, we exhibit various varves not only from all over Japan but from abroad and show you various events in the past natural history varves have brought to light. We also exhibit the varves and fossils of the Cretaceous period when dinosaurs lived.
