Humanity and the Environment as Seen through the Suigetsu Varves

Photo

Homo sapiens appeared at least 200,000 years ago in Africa and they gradually spread to various parts of the world about 70,000 years ago. Therefore, 70,000 years of history recorded in the varves of Lake Suigetsu coincides with the history of human development. Varves of Lake Suigetsu serve as the scale measuring historical time and you can trace back what humans have experienced in the past 70,000 years.
