At present, the Lake Suigetsu Varves have been adopted as the "global standard measure" (IntCal), but in order to maintain the status as the world standard in the future, it is necessary to continue significant researches on the varves and improve the accuracy of radiocarbon dating and its calibration.
In addition, in order to increase the academic value of the varves and to conduct outreach both at home and abroad, Fukui Prefecture concluded an agreement with Ritsumeikan University on October 22, 2015 (Basic Cooperation Agreement on Varve-related Research between Fukui Prefecture and Ritsumeikan University), and is conducting joint research.
