Fukui Prefecture and Ritsumeikan University signed an agreement on varve research in 2015. Ritsumeikan University has been developing a technique to extract pollen fossils from sediments using the "cell sorter" (a device that separates cells using a laser) installed by Fukui Prefecture at the Fukui Prefectural Varve Museum and measure radiocarbon dates.
Since January 2021, we have been providing the service POLARIS (POLlen RAdio-ISotope) to a wide range of research communities and industries, including not only research institutes but also companies and local governments.
